JUDITH ARGOMANIZ

Director and choreographer

Judith Argomaniz trained in Donostia/San Sebastián, Barcelona and Madrid. She graduated in Choreography from the María de Ávila Higher Conservatory of Dance in Madrid, receiving the highest honours and the Extraordinary Award for Creation.

In 2017, she received the Revelation Award from the Association of Dance Professionals of Gipuzkoa in recognition of «her potential and promising future in the fields of choreography and performance».

Since 2013, she has been the director and choreographer of LASALA. Her works have been presented in numerous festivals and theatres throughout Spain, including the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, the Teatro Arriaga and the Teatro Principal de Valencia, as well as internationally in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Hungary, and also in Taiwan and Canada.

Alongside her work with LASALA, she develops new creations as a guest artist with different companies and was the choreographer of the film Dantza, directed by Telmo Esnal.

Her career has been recognised with numerous national and international awards, including First Prize at the Concours Chorégraphique Contemporain Jeunes Compagnies – Les Synodales (France), First Prize at the IX International Dance and Performing Arts Competition of Alcobendas, the Audience Award for Best Dance Performance at the Huesca International Theatre and Dance Fair, the Award for Best Street Performance in the Basque Country at Umore Azoka Leioa, and the Award for Best Dance Performance at the TAC Festival in Valladolid.

She combines her creative work with teaching, giving classes and workshops on creative processes and new dramaturgies in conservatories, vocational programmes and universities.

Her work is characterised by a constant search for a distinctive physical language, where the body, emotion and the dramaturgy of movement engage in a dialogue balanced between strength and delicacy.
